Michelin Pilot Sport 4S

Take note all sports drivers… 2017 will see the launch of the latest super sports tyre from Michelin designed specifically for sports cars, high performance saloons and hyper cars. Initially in 19, 20 and 21 inch sizes with further sizes expected, the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S is described as the second generation Michelin Pilot Super Sport – a revered favourite amongst manufacturers and performance drivers the world over.

Why the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S is a big deal

So why is the launch of the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S so important? Michelin has taken the best elements of its Pilot Super Sport tyre and adds what the French manufacturer has learned from the highly lauded Pilot Sport Cup 2, to produce a thoroughbred sports tyre offering drivers and manufacturers a fantastic balance between performance, safety and longevity.

The Pilot Sport 4S tyre is already making waves in the super sports market with some impressive OE homologations on the new Ferrari GTC4 Lusso 2016 and the 2017 Mercedes AMG E63 and E43 models to name but a few.

The newest member of the Michelin sports range

The Michelin Pilot Sport range has been in production since 1997 and has amassed a large following in the automotive world, and this depth of knowledge and experience has helped develop its newest member; the Pilot Sport 4S.

The Pilot Sport 4S gives an unsubtle nod to its heritage, combining some of the best attributes of previous tyres in the Pilot Sport range. The Pilot Sport 4S is indeed seen as a long term substitute for the Pilot Super Sport and it sits nicely between the Pilot Sport Cup 2, Michelin’s road legal track focused tyre and the more versatile, mass market sports tyre, the Pilot Sport 4.

Some Pilot Super Sport’s will continue to be produced for years to come, those specifically marked for certain Sport’s marques for example.

Tyre Features

The Pilot Sport 4S has been specifically designed to offer super sport performance and feel and has been rated No.1 on a range of essential sports car driver characteristics:

  • 1st on DRY braking (1)
  • 1st on DRY laptime (1)
  • 1st in longevity (2)
  • plus excellent results on wet roads.

The Ultra-reactive tread pattern design adapts continuously to the road, for an optimised footprint on the road surface giving the driver a high level of reactivity and improved feeling.

The Pilot Sport 4S also features ‘Dynamic Response’ technology; a hybrid belt of aramid and nylon which ensures optimum transmission of steering instructions onto the road. It’s as if the tyre knows your next move before you make it.

The exceptional dry grip and improved wet braking are the result of Bi-Compound technology (that is, more than one compound on the tread). The Pilot Sport 4S combines a novel hybrid elastomer for dry grip and a new mix of compound with specific “functional elastomers” and silica for excellent wet grip and braking, so you get the best of both worlds.

To add further style to the substance, the Pilot Sport 4S is precision manufactured to feature a premium touch, velvet sidewall finish and a deep rim protector to help protect your alloys.

So, if you are looking for one of the best sports/hyper car tyres on the market, the new Michelin  Pilot Sport 4S combines the performance your car deserves with the longevity and safety we have come to expect from the Michelin Pilot Sport range.

The Michelin Pilot Sport 4S is due for release in early 2017 and will be available to buy online at kwik-fit.com
