Kwik Fit supports Tyre Safety Month

  • Tyre Safety Month highlights to drivers the importance of making regular tyres checks
  • Only a third of drivers check their tyres once a month
  • 52% of drivers say they have had to replace tyres due to sidewall damage

Kwik Fit, the UK’s leading tyre retailer, is supporting Tyre Safety Month which this October aims to highlight to drivers the importance of making regular tyres checks. A study for Kwik Fit has shown that only just over a third of drivers (36%) check their tyres at least once a month, while a fifth say they either never check them at all or do so just once a year.

Kwik Fit is a member of TyreSafe, a road safety organisation dedicated to raising awareness of the dangers associated with illegal or defective tyres. This year’s Tyre Safety Month campaign is designed to make drivers ACT – and check their Air pressure, Condition and Tread once a month. The campaign will ask motorists “When did you last do it?” and encourage them to “practise safe checks”.

Kwik Fit advises motorists that it is not just the tread depth that drivers need to consider. Research for the company found that more than half of all drivers (52%) said that they have had to replace a tyre due to damage to the tyre wall, rather than worn tread. This underlines the importance of making a full all round check of all four tyres – the only components of a car which are in contact with the road.

Roger Griggs, communications director at Kwik Fit, said: “TyreSafe carries out very important work in reminding drivers how crucial tyres are to both their own safety, and that of fellow road users. We encourage all drivers to make a monthly tyre check part of their motoring routine. If any driver is uncertain about what to look for, or concerned about the health of their tyres, they can come into any one of our centres across the UK for a free check from one of our tyre experts.”
