Our pre-road trip checklist
Before heading out on any road trip you need to be prepared, and when we took on The Scenic Route: The Cambrian Way we completed our own checklist.
Here's what you should be looking out for:
- Tyre pressures - having incorrect tyre pressures affects your ability to brake properly and the handling of your vehicle while you're driving. Check your tyre pressures and use our Tyre Pressure Search Tool to find out what is best for your vehicle.
- Tread depth - the legal minimum limit for tread depth is 1.6mm in the UK. you can measure this with the simple '20p test'. Take a look at our guide 'How to Check Tread Depth' for step-by step instruction.
- Screenwash - this one seems simple but can actually be an MOT failure if not filled up! Additionally, when you travel The Scenic Route, your windscreen could encounter mud, dust or even bugs. Keep it filled and see clearly throughout your road trip.
- Oil level - Driving with low oil levels can cause damage to the components of your engine and decrease your engine's performance. It is good to regularly check your oil level, especially before long trips so that you can top up if needed.
- Lights & indicators - Using your vehicle's lights and indicators isn't just about following the rules; it's a crucial way to see the road to communicate your intentions to other drivers. Check these are in working order before any long journey.
Selecting the perfect road trip tyres

Explore the route through Wales
Starting off at Kwik Fit Cardiff, our team had their tyres fitted, cars checked and then they were ready to head north and explore what Wales had to offer. They saw iconic landmarks and completed fun activities along the way. You can follow the route or plan your own with our destination map.

The Cambrian Way took us through some of Wales’ most stunning locations. From the dramatic Black Mountain Pass and the rolling Brecon Beacons to the mysterious National Showcaves, there was no shortage of breathtaking scenery. We explored the colourful village of Portmeirion, historic Plas Newydd, and iconic landmarks like Bedd Gelert and Llanfairpwllgwyngyll, as well as charming coastal towns like Harlech. Each stop offered incredible photo opportunities and a chance to soak up Wales’ natural beauty and rich heritage.
Unforgettable fun and activities
The Cambrian Way adventure was packed with unforgettable experiences. Along the route, we played giant chess, enjoyed a relaxing spa day, explored vintage train stations and railways, and even visited a dinosaur park. We ventured underground in caves and historic mines, took part in scenic hikes, and discovered a variety of unique hands-on activities along the way. From playful challenges to memorable adventures, every day offered something new and exciting to make the journey truly special.
